   What AGGN stands for

The African Good Governance Network (AGGN) comprises a group of highly educated African academics who have either studied in Germany or are still studying in Germany. Due to their qualifications they can be numbered among the future decision makers dedicated to Good Governance principles in sub-Saharan Africa. AGGN fellows promote the ideas of Good Governance and help to further the process of democratization in their home countries. AGGN members consider it their duty to actively promote the values of Good Governance and thus accompany the economic and political transformation process in sub-Saharan Africa.

   What AGGN has to offer

By attending seminars organized by the AGGN, future decision makers are being prepared to assume their responsibility towards society. AGGN seminars offer further training courses which combine theoretical and practical aspects of 'Good Governance'. Members have the possibility of annually attending up to three seminars/conferences reflecting various aspects of Good Governance. The aim of these seminars/conferences is to enhance the consciousness and understanding of Good Governance, thus strengthening the social attitude.
Another rather practical aspect within the frame of AGGN activities is the Personal Skills Training. Rhetoric, decision-making, and presentation techniques are only a small part of the wide range of teaching programmes that AGGN provides for its members. In addition to participation in regular AGGN meetings and conferences, partial scholarships can be allocated to AGGN members for master’s degrees and doctorates. Funding can also be provided for attending further training events and conferences focusing on Good Governance.

   Origins of AGGN

Under the auspices of the German Federal President, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) created the AGGN in early 2007. By initiating this network, the DAAD wants to make a contribution to the broadening and deepening of the academic collaboration between Africa and Germany and promote future key players in the domain of Good Governance.

How to become an AGGN fellow

Candidates have to be nominated by a German university or a renowned research institution and should show social engagement in addition to their academic work. A DAAD-organized selection committee will decide on the applications by conducting personal interviews. The nomination process takes place once a year.
