“Democracy is the worst form of government, except all the others.” (Winston s. Churchill)
Relating to this famous quote, the workshop on “Democracy” that took place from 25th to 28th of June in Berlin invited the participants to critically discuss democracy from various angles and viewpoints. The focus laid on democracy in Germany and in Africa. The theoretical and academic part of the program encouraged in-depth and lively discussion about democracy in general and about democracy and related potentials and issues in the African context, in particular. The location Berlin offered many possibilities to further explore and debate the topic in a more practical way. The participants visited German political institutions, such as a political parties’ headquarters, the Paul-Löbe-Haus, a political foundation, and the German Africa foundation. Insightful inputs during these visits led to fruitful discussions with representatives of these institutions, including politicians and practitioners. A skills training on leadership finally completed an enlightening workshop on democracy
