Taking as occasion the 5th EU-Africa Summit at the end of November in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the African Good Governance Network held a workshop on the relationship between Europe and Africa. The workshop took place in Brussels from 15 to 17 November. The first day began with academic lectures by scholars Dr. Jan Völkel and Dr. Catherine Biira on the European Union and regional integration in Africa respectively. Thereafter, the fellows visited the European Commission and the European Council, the Permanent Mission of the African Union and the NGOs CONCORD and ECDPM. The visits included insightful exchanges and lively debates. Two topics reoccured throughout most vists: Firstly, the prospects of the upcoming summits are currently discussed intensely. Secondly, the EU Africa relations are currently shaped by the prevalence of migration on the political agenda. The prospects, implications and challenges of this development were evaluated from a variety of political and institutional viewpoints.
